Northern Alberta Missions
McLennan, AB and Wabasca, AB

McLennan Mission
The Sisters of Providence first arrived in McLennan in 1929 and established Sacred Heart Hospital. They continued their mission, taking over the direction of the school and later opening a dormitory to allow students from isolated areas to attend school. The Sisters remained in McLennan until 1973. Over a decade later, the Sisters returned to McLennan and now continue to minister in northern Alberta. The Sisters, who live in a private residence, carry on the ministries of pastoral care at Sacred Heart Health Centre, and work with the archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan to meet the spiritual needs of the those in the area.

Wabasca Mission
In February 2002, the Sisters of Providence returned to the northern Alberta community of Wabasca to continue their work with First Nations people. The Sisters ministry involves providing a listening ear and presence for the people primarily in the fields of pastoral care, education and parish work.
